The Bad and Ugly Things About Insurance

There’s a lot to say about how insurance is a really good thing but, as insurance companies got into bed with politicians and lawyers insurance has become a rather bad and ugly thing in many cases.

The good things about insurance are the obvious ones, it pays you money if something happens and you bought Insurance to cover that risk, it’s the price you pay for peace of mind, the “just in case” bill we all pay.

The bad thing about insurance is, it costs too much for what you get. Yes, if you really think about what we all pay for, car insurance, home insurance, health care, life, dental, and home warranty, it’s about 6%-14% of your annual income. For all of us that make payments and never make a claim, that money goes into the pockets of the insurance companies.

The really ugly thing about insurance is the insurance companies that refuse to pay when something does happen. The lawyers that file outrageous claims and cost everyone more and the politicians that pass laws that protect insurance companies from paying and force the public to buy crappy healthcare insurance or other types of insurance.

Now for the downright awful part of insurance there’s a lot of bad insurance companies out there and you never know until you need it.

So what can you do? Do your homework, ask questions, shop online and compare, know your budget, check your policy and coverage at least annually and talk with an agent that is independent of the insurance company even if you don’t buy you will get good information because they compete to get your business.
